QuickBooks charges per company file, so every small client has to earn its own subscription before it earns you anything. LedgerDock charges the firm once. Your clients ride your capacity — which makes the small ones worth taking.
A client company is a line item on your bill, not a subscription of its own. One Firm plan at $79 covers five companies; Network covers twelve and then adds $29 for each one after. Nothing about a client's size changes what they cost you — only your own totals do.
That is the whole difference. When the per-file fee disappears, the twelve-transactions-a-month landscaper stops being a rounding error you turn away and starts being margin. The clients a per-file price makes uneconomic are exactly the ones this model makes profitable.
Clients you service pay nothing and are never billed for working inside their own books. If a client wants their own account independent of your practice, they can self-fund Solo at $29 — their company then bills to them, drops off your company count, and you keep working in it exactly as before.

On Free, Solo and Firm, LedgerDock never charges you automatically. When you hit a limit — an extra company, an extra source account, an extra hundred transactions — the system pauses, shows you the next tier, and asks you to confirm.
Network works differently on one axis only: it includes 12 companies and adds $29 / month for each company beyond that, so adding a client never blocks your work. A company added mid-cycle is prorated; a company removed drops off at the end of the cycle. Every other limit still pauses and asks.
Upgrades take effect immediately. Downgrades take effect at the end of the current billing cycle. No long-term contracts on Solo, Firm, or Network.
Each finalized ledger line counts as one transaction in the month it was finalized. Working drafts, reconciliation checkmarks, and manual journal entries in progress do not count until you finalize them.
Active bank and credit-card accounts in the company's chart of accounts. Deactivating an account brings you back under the limit immediately.
Same feature set: firms, unlimited team, unlimited source accounts. The difference is scale — Firm covers up to five companies with 1,500 transactions each. Network includes twelve companies with 10,000 transactions each, and keeps going at $29 / month per additional company, so a growing practice is never blocked from taking on the next client.
Yes. Upgrades take effect immediately and we prorate the difference. Downgrades take effect at the start of the next billing cycle so you keep what you paid for through the end of the current one.
The next finalize action pauses and prompts you to upgrade. Your data stays intact. You can also split a large commit into a smaller one for this month and a follow-on for next month if upgrading isn't the right move.
Annual billing arrives later this year. For now everything is monthly with no commitment.
The Free tier is unlimited in time, so it functions as the trial. When you hit a Free limit, upgrading to Solo takes a minute and the data carries over.
